One of the good examples of Sapir-Whorf hypothesis is the movie 'Arrival'. In different cultures, language significantly influences our perception of time and reality. For example, reading and writing from left to right, right to left or top to bottom accordingly shapes our thinking to be linear, and consequently, we perceive time to be linear and sequential. But what if we had a language that was not linear but circular? Such a language might lead us to perceive time as circular(non linear) rather than sequential.
Just came across this channel and it is helping me A LOT with my upcoming linguistics exam. Thank you so much.
I cannot thank you enough for this explanation. Saved my life.
I dont get it.. why the n change into a m before b? just because m and b are bilabials?
I´m going to have a linguistics test on Wednesday and this is really helping me to understand, we need to do syntax exercises and now I know the difference between these two! Thank you so much
I like your prononciation of these arabic sounds ...Especially ق

Soo interesting 🎉

Hi very well defined. I was confused between a clues and a sentence for a long time.
* clause
Cool video. But I’m still confused about the difference between assimilation and co-articulation😢
I wish you gave a few examples from Russian, 'hard' vs 'soft' version of the same sound, examples from English are lacking and mock Russian accent seems beside the point.
Please feel free to share more examples from Russian here in the comment section.
I'm an Economist so I'm not an expert in this stuff. But if I'm not mistaking, Linguists can also work in Anthropology to reconstruct old languages, or Preservationists/archivists/curators for those that are under the threat of extinction.

Who else is watching because they have exams tomorrow?🌚
4:03 would it be correct if we first pair up dis- + proportion and then dispropotion + -ate?
Hello Aze, thank you for all the wonderful videos you make that are greatly adding my understanding and developing my knowledge of linguistics. If you don't mind, I had a question about words starting with vowels in different languages. So I have been looking into syllable structures with onset, nuclei, and coda clusters, and I notice, looking at these syllable structures, none of them mentioned vowels along starting syllables or words. Are vowels that start words standalone syllables, or can they get a coda cluster since they cant receive an onset?
Thanks a lot

We can separate represent as a prefix 're' and present or not sir ?
Good lacture Most helpful for me
why sir did you include pronouns in lexical category in previous video and now you say it is functional
mother in law becomes mothers in law we can say that the s is an infix
I find that working backwards helps me deconstruct a word. So I look at the final evolution of a word and work my way down instead of up. And I notice that the base is usually the word before the first transition. In other words the foundation (base). For example as you said in activity: Active + ity, active is the word that transfoms hence active is the base. It couldn't be "act" because it wpuld be act + ity ...there is the /v/ missing. But in active Act + ive is the word act that transforms by taking on ive hence act is the base.
Great!
Thank you ❤
today at last i found the base for my work after one year. thank you so much.
